return to reading...

I love to read! For years now I've neglected that passion. With each child I've gradually found less and less time to indulge. I think last year I may have eked out two books and I believe both were read while on vacation. Sad, I know. Well, I'm happy to say that it appears change is in the air. Not sure how, but I've managed to read two novels and half of a health book in the last month or so.

First, I read The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I picked it up on a whim at Sam's and actually found time to read it! It was a great read. Sad and sweet. Ah, the tangled web we weave... I enjoyed the journey through the characters lives, felt it ended somewhat abruptly and wanted to wrap things up my own way. But I often feel that way at the end of a good book. I want to fix it all up and make a happy ending, but I guess perfect endings aren't that interesting.

Then, while in the Berkshires, I read Me & Emma. Heartbreaking... I
put it down several times and told my husband that I wasn't going to read it because I just couldn't take it. It was good enough though that I did keep picking it back up again. Throughout most of the book I was very critical of the timeline but in the end it all came together. A very interesting read. I can't say it was uplifting but it definitely made me hug my kids a little tighter and re-commit to watching out for all children.

Now let's see how I do with this one, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. I picked it up last night on a detour through Barnes and Noble. I haven't started it yet but it looks interesting and I've heard good things about it. I'll let you know.

Wish me luck on this "return to reading" journey...

I think you'll really enjoy the book! If you are ever looking for a few more, try The Time Travelers Wife, Dogs of Babel and Peace like River. All are great reads.
