twilight the movie...

Hmmm... the jury's still out on Twilight the Movie. I'll need to see it sometime when I'm not surrounded by tittering teens. They giggled at every "mooshy" part and spoke to the screen loudly and I just couldn't get into it.

Mr. Pattinson didn't disappoint as a visual representation of Edward. He is undeniably beautiful. A smidge of overacting in parts but very nice to watch nonetheless. Didn't love the make-up in this movie, the Cullen's should be ethereally pale but not pasty. A couple of the actors just didn't fit the bill in my mind but you can't have it all, I guess.

Overall, upon first review, I would give it a six out of ten. It was good enough that I'll watch it again, hopefully with fewer distractions. It will never live up to the book but I don't expect it to. Seeing Edward incarnate is just icing on the delicious cake that is the Twilight series...

Yep, I'm still here and pathetically posting about a movie, of all things, after my extended absence. I've been literally, okay almost literally, buried in projects over the last few weeks. More on that later, but I'm so excited because I'm finally digging myself out tonight for a date with The Husband (who's just returning after being away for a week)!

A little alone time with my honey, a little Cheesecake Factory and a little movie called Twilight... ahh. Who could ask for anything more on a Friday night. Do you think The Husband will mind wiping the drool off my chin when Edward makes his first appearance in the movie or when I swoon at the first kiss? Eh, hopefully he'll be appeased with all the fight scenes they've built up just for the boys.

i'm baaaack... sort of...

I've been away for a bit. A birthday (mine, ugh), and a couple of impromptu trips have taken me away from my computer for a bit, but here I am again.

I'm aware that my last two posts have been about Breaking Dawn and now this one is, too. Sorry. I am obsessed but I haven't dedicated my life to the obsession. I've actually been avoiding most things Breaking Dawn related for the last couple weeks as the controversy is something I just don't have the patience for. My opinion, the author writes the book she wants, the reader likes it or doesn't like it. It's completely subjective and if you don't like it, why dwell on it? Find something else that makes you happy. Let go and let live. No need to kill the lover's buzz!

That being said, I finally got on the computer today and carefully dabbled around the fan sites and was thrilled to come across this fabulous interview with Stephenie Meyer. Almost everything you ever wanted to know about Breaking Dawn. The interview consists of ten clips listed on the sidebar and is quite lengthy in total, but so worth it! Beware: SPOILERS GALORE. If you haven't finished Breaking Dawn, do that first and then watch!

P.S. Life is beyond crazy lately. I always have trouble wrapping up summer, especially when they seem to get unbelievably shorter each year. I WILL be back with non-Twilight related stuff soon.

What a wild and crazy ride...

Breaking Dawn was in my hot little hands by 12:30am Saturday. I zipped home thinking I'd read a chapter or two before I rested up for my all-day reading marathon. "Just another chapter... just one more chapter," I found myself saying until I glanced out the window and realized the sun was coming up. How apropos... Breaking Dawn. I quickly glanced at the clock, 5:17 am. Ouch. I set the book down and stole four hours of sleep.

I raced out of the house by 9:30 with a blanket, pillows and a cooler full of snacks (all my favorite treats, lovingly supplied by The Husband... so sweet). I sacked out under a shady tree at a quiet park near my house and read and read and read. No guilt, no outside interruptions. Heaven. I did have to shuffle around a bit when a thunderstorm hit in the afternoon. I relocated a couple times throughout the day but managed to finish by 12:30 am on Sunday.

Almost a full day of reading and I loved it. The book was more than I even expected. I laughed, I bawled. When I finished I was satisfied but broken-hearted that this series is over. I've never been involved in a series before, it's such an odd feeling to have it wrapped up after so much anticipation. Thank heavens that I still have Midnight Sun to look forward to or I'd be crushed. I can never get enough Edward! And if Stephenie is kind enough to give us some outtakes from Breaking Dawn I will be thrilled.

More... more... more, I'm insatiable.

tonight... tonight...

I've been looking forward to this for so long. It surprises me how excited I am to know what happens next. It's the highlight of my summer, really. That's pretty sad, huh? Busy summer, but very ho-hum. No fabulous vacations, no sparkling get-togethers... anyhoo, this is my big thing. Pathetic, yes... but I'll take what I can get.

We're taking the kids to a baseball game tonight and then after the fireworks I'll be meeting a friend at Barnes & Noble for the midnight party. We'll see if we really have to stay that long but I'm planning to read all day tomorrow and would like to get as early a start as possible. The Husband offered to watch the kids all weekend, I think he prefers I get it over with in one fell swoop rather than sneak off to read whenever I get a chance! A nice little break for me, especially since he's been away all week for work. He'd actually offered to get a hotel for my sister and me to spend uninterrupted time reading but alas, she's just not as excited as I am. I'm not into staying at a hotel by myself so I'll just kick around, who knows where, all day tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Anyone else having a Breaking Dawn weekend? C'mon 'fess up...

Finished reading The Host a couple days ago. It was a good one, I really enjoyed it. It was just right... not too sci-fi, just the right amount of action, one or two good romances and some nice human relationships. The Husband read it, too and gave it two thumbs up. That Stephenie... we love her.

I'm still finding time to read fairly regularly! This makes me happy. A quick update of what's been on my nightstand recently...

The Goose Girl is a book that my sister recommended to me a couple of years ago. I never got around to picking it up, so she finally brought me her copy the last time she visited. Okay, so once I did pick it up I barely put it down. I started reading one evening and finished the next morning, stopping only to slumber briefly and send the children off to school. A fascinating fairy tale, nicely written. Who knew I would enjoy this whole fantasy genre as much as I do? I liked it so much that I quickly borrowed its sequel from the library. (Why does everything I read lately have a sequel?)

Enna Burning was a good read but didn't capture my attention like Goose Girl did. I started reading and put it down for a while. I picked it back up again a couple weeks later and finished it in two days. The story took a while to get going but once it did I was eager to read on. It was good enough that I'm planning to pick up the next in the series, River Secrets. And I'm looking forward to reading more of Shannon Hale's writing.

But first, I can't wait to start reading The Host! The Husband bought it for me while he was grocery shopping the other day (sweet). I've been planning to get it since it was released a few weeks ago but have just been too busy. I'm so glad he thought of it. I'll start reading it tonight. I wonder if it will be as bewitching as the Twilight series was for me. I hope it will because, wow that was/is a fun trip and I hope it won't because, gah I just don't have the energy to be that invested in two series! We shall see...

Finished Eclipse last Saturday and hmmmm... I'm still in an Edward fog. Captivated by this series. Slightly disturbed by my fascination with Edward. Not disturbed enough to need one of these...

















but disturbed enough to come across it in my quest for more Edward! Yikes!

These books really got me. Such a surprise, since they're nothing I would have ever expected to be tangled up in. Typically I'm a pretty practical girl. I've never been a fan of fantasy, nevermind vampires of all things. I'm not even particularly a romance reader. Mysteries are more for me. I'm not prone to obsessive fan-dom, I've even been known to chuckle condescendingly at Harry Potter enthusiasts. I don't waste time gushing over beautiful celebrities, yet here I am consumed by this fictional character. Ahhh... Edward, be still my heart.

My sister assures me that this daze will pass, that she was just as preoccupied after finishing the last book, but I'm not so sure... Do I even want it to pass since it's such a nice escape? Ultimately I do, as it's become somewhat time consuming or should I just say consuming. Ahem... here are some of the things I've found in my Twilight pursuits, things that make me unreasonably happy. Maybe they'll make you happy, too -- if you've taken the dive and fallen as hard as I have...

Yum! Say what you will about these books but I can't stop smiling since finishing New Moon two days ago. Let yourself go. Read them for what they are... entertainment, a delightful fantasy... you won't regret it. Grin. Thank you Stephenie Meyer. Can't wait to read Eclipse. Maybe next week, I'm still enjoying the high from this one!

Yep, finished Twilight already! I bought it on Friday night and finished it in the wee hours of Sunday morning. I found myself picking it up repeatedly all day Saturday... just one more chapter. It was an unexpectedly delightful balance of dark and delicious!

It's a young adult novel so I didn't have any expectations of life changing insights. Truly, I doubted that I would like it at all. Vampires? Not something I've ever been interested in. What I did find was a very entertaining story, fun to read. The intensity of the main characters' relationship was palpable. I really got sucked in, obviously. I guess I know what my next read will be!
