the lone halloween shot...

Here is the only picture that I got of my munchkins in their Halloween get-ups this year. It was the last shot before the camera was broken(sniff). Finally downloaded it.

My little Woodland Fairies won first place in the Halloween Parade at the Halloween Party we were attending in this picture! Their actual costumes were some that I picked up at Target last year after Halloween (love me a clearance sale). I made their crowns, though. If I say so myself, they turned out quite pretty and weren't difficult to make. Just wire wrapped with brown floral tape and embellished with some fall colored silk leaves and flowers, some glitter encrusted silk foliage and glittery feather butterflies bouncing around on gold coiled wire. Wish they showed up better in the picture, but they do blend in well with the foliage... which I guess is the point for Woodland Fairies! The girls got to wear glittery make-up and I found fabulous glittery brown and rose tights at Gap that coordinated perfectly with their costumes and their copper ballet flats. They got tons of compliments everywhere they went, they were loving it!

I was hesitant when The Boy asked to be a "motorcycle guy," but it was a super easy costume. He just wore jeans and a short-sleeved white t-shirt (to show off his 'tats'), luckily it was a warm Halloween but we had a back-up long sleeved white t-shirt just in case. I hit Walmart for accessories, can't beat that store for Halloween accoutrement! I bought black rubber rainboots (which he needed anyway), a black bandanna, and a black studded belt (from the juniors dept-don't tell him) and cheap stretch black gloves that I cut the fingers off of. For the vest I found some soft black fabric that looked like broken-in leather and made up a simple pattern but my favorite part was the back of the vest. I hunted all over Walmart for some kind of cool embellishment and finally found car decals in the automotive dept. I wasn't sure how they would adhere to the fabric but they stuck perfectly, smooth and seamless! Oh yeah, and his favorite part, twelve-inches of chunky chain from Home Depot to loop on his jeans. He was in his glory in this costume (should I be worried?). When he changed into it for his school party every boy in the class surrounded him asking about all the pieces. I had eight-year old boys asking me where I found the belt, the chain, the vest. So funny!

Anyhoo, I think that's it... more than you ever wanted to know! When The Husband finally replaces my camera I might remember to get a couple close-up shots of the crowns and vest.

Awesome costumes! You always out do yourself! I wish we could see all the details, but alas...you've proven once again that there is a curse upon you when it comes to cameras (is this #2?). Oh...and stairs...and....etc etc!
